IMIS Foundation Diploma
The
Foundation Diploma leads to IMIS Practitioner Grade.
Introduced
in 1988 to provide a route for candidates to gain entry to our Diploma
Course examination. This course is also suitable for young people who
want to work with computers and need some entry level education. All
modules defined within the course structure may be taken individually
or collectively to form a Foundation Diploma.
Prerequisites
:
There
are no prerequisites to this course. Each module is designed to introduce
the student to the basic elements of information systems practices.

2.
IMIS Diploma
The
Diploma Course leads to IMIS Licentiate Grade.
Continues
on from the Foundation Diploma level although access at this level is
also available to candidates who comply with the entrance requirements.
Completion of these examinations awards a Diploma Certificate and the
general standard equates to the National (ONC) Certificate.
Candidates
having completed the Diploma Course are working at the equivalent level
of early entry analysts.
Prerequisites
:
Candidates
may enter this course on satisfying one of the following requirements:
Completion
of the Foundation Diploma;
Four
GCSE/GCE/SCE ‘O’ levels, one of which should be in English and one in
a numerate subject at grades A, B, or C (for overseas students grades
1 to 6 Credits/Distinctions are considered equivalent);
In
exceptional circumstances candidates may be admitted under the following
conditions:
Being
21 years of age and able to demonstrate over two years’ work experience
relevant to computing or a related field;
Candidates
19 years of age or more at the time of sitting for the Institute examinations
may be admitted at the discretion of the college; provided that they
can satisfy the staff at the college that they are sufficiently well
motivated as to enable them to cope with the demands imposed by the
course of study and that they possess appropriate ability even if not
measured by the acquisition of ‘O’ levels or equivalent.

3.
IMIS Higher Diploma
The
Higher Diploma Course leads to IMIS Associate Grade
Extends
and complements the Diploma Course to give students a comprehensive
knowledge of the entire field of operations, programming, systems analysis
and design, and computer management.
A
Higher Diploma award equates to the Higher National Certificate/Diploma
(HNC/HND) and prepares candidates for work at the equivalent level of
analyst/team leader.
Prerequisites
:
One
of the following is required:
Successful
completion of the Diploma level examinations

BTEC
National Certificate/Diploma in Computing
-
BTEC
National Certificate/Diploma in a computing related subject with
a significant computing element. For example, a Business and Finance
Certificate which includes Information Processing 1 and 2
General
Certificate of (Secondary) Education (or equivalent) with passes in
5 subjects normally including Mathematics and English at GCSE level
(grade C or above), ‘A’ level in a computing subject and one other ‘A’
level. Two passes at ‘AS’ level may be considered in place of one ‘A’
level pass
Scottish
Certificate of Education with passes (grades 1, 2 or 3) in 3 subjects
at Ordinary or Standard Grade and passes (grades A, B or C) 6 in 4 subjects
at Higher Grade one of which must be computing related
Other
appropriate educational qualifications deemed equivalent to the IMIS
Diploma level examinations
Candidates
21 years of age or over with four years’ appropriate work experience
relevant to computing or a related field may also be considered for
this course
